Privacy Policy

Otaku Sync is a Chrome extension that keeps two people's video playback in sync so they can watch together. This policy explains exactly what it collects, what it does not, and why.

What we collect

• A device identifier. A random identifier generated in your browser when you first use the extension. It lets us start your free trial and recognise this browser later. It is not a hardware identifier and contains nothing about you or your computer.
• Your email address — only if you choose to sign in. You can use the extension without any account. If you sign in with Google, Facebook, or an email address, we store that email address and, where the provider supplies it, your display name.
• A sign-in token, stored in your browser's extension storage to keep you signed in between sessions.
• Account status. When your trial started, whether a subscription is active, and when it renews.
• Anonymous usage counts. Totals such as how many parties were started or how many reactions were sent. These are numbers only, aggregated by day, and are never linked to what you watched or said.

What we do not collect

• We do not store your chat messages, emoji reactions or GIFs. They pass through our relay to the other person and are never written to disk.
• We do not record, store or view your webcam or microphone. Video and audio travel directly between the two browsers and never reach our servers.
• We do not collect your browsing history. The extension only runs on Crunchyroll pages, and the episode address is shared with the person in your party so they can follow along — it is not logged or retained.
• We never see your Crunchyroll credentials.
• We do not store card or payment details. Payments are handled entirely by Razorpay.
• There are no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics.

Third parties

• Google and Facebook — only if you choose to sign in with them. They tell us your email address and name; we tell them nothing about your viewing.
• An email provider delivers your verification code and receives your email address for that purpose.
• Razorpay processes payments, if and when a paid plan is offered.
• GIPHY serves results when you open the GIF picker. Your search terms are sent to GIPHY.
• Public STUN servers help two browsers find each other for webcam and voice. They see network addresses, not audio or video.

How long we keep it

Account records are kept while your account exists. Verification codes expire after ten minutes. Usage counts are aggregates with no link to any individual. Ask us to delete your account and we remove your record within 30 days.

Security

All traffic uses HTTPS or secure WebSockets. Passwords, where set, are stored hashed with a per-user salt and are not recoverable. Verification codes are stored hashed, never in plain text.

Children

Otaku Sync is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Your choices

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time by messaging support. Uninstalling the extension stops all collection; removing it also clears the device identifier and sign-in token from your browser.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above changes and the extension shows a notice.
